The Mumbai Indians (MI) were active participants in the IPL 2024 Auction, securing the services of eight players, four of whom were from overseas. Among the notable acquisitions were Gerald Coetzee, Nuwan Thushara, Dilshan Madushanka, and the experienced all-rounder Mohammad Nabi.

Heading into the auction, Mumbai Indians held a purse of Rs. 17.75 crores, with spots available for eight additional players. With the retention of four overseas players, they had the opportunity to bring in four more international players during the auction.

Prior to the IPL 2024 auction, MI had already retained 15 players in their squad and made two trades, spending Rs. 82.25 crores in the process. Key overseas players retained included Dewald Brevis, Jason Behrendorff, and Tim David. Additionally, Romario Shepherd was acquired through a trade with the Lucknow Super Giants. Among the domestic players, MI held onto talents such as Jasprit Bumrah, Tilak Varma, Nehal Wadhera, Rohit Sharma, Akash Madhwal, Arjun Tendulkar, and Suryakumar Yadav.

In a significant move, Mumbai Indians will see a change in leadership for IPL 2024, with the franchise appointing Hardik Pandya as their new skipper. Pandya was acquired from the Gujarat Titans through a trade, and the team later entrusted him with the captaincy.

In the previous season, Mumbai Indians delivered an impressive performance, securing the 4th spot in the points table to reach the playoffs. However, they faced elimination after losing the Eliminator match and the Qualifier 2 match to Gujarat Titans.
